Magnetic Pendulum Chaos

A pendulum bob swings above three colored magnets, pulled by their competing fields while a restoring force tries to drag it back to center. Because the combined pull is nonlinear, two starting points a hair's-width apart can end up at completely different magnets — this extreme sensitivity to initial conditions is the classic signature of chaos theory. The glowing trail traces the bob's actual path, while the floor slowly paints a basin-of-attraction map showing which magnet ultimately wins from each starting point.
