🍯 Managing Horizontal Long Hives: Layens and Long Langstroth Styles

A cutaway 3D horizontal long hive where follower boards, lateral comb expansion, ventilation and lifting-free inspection can all be explored interactively.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

As colony strength rises, follower boards move outward to expose more frames, with a brood core, a pollen/nectar buffer band, and honey stores arranged side-by-side along the hive rather than stacked in boxes.

🎮 How to Use

Adjust colony strength and hive style to see frame counts change, toggle ventilation to watch warm air convect out through gable vents, and pick a frame to lift straight up for inspection.

💡 Did You Know?

Layens hives use fewer, deeper frames while long Langstroth hives use more, shallower ones — both avoid ever having to lift a heavy box, which is why horizontal hives are popular for back-friendly beekeeping.
