🐝 Advanced Nucleus Colony Management

A cutaway observation nuc box lets you switch between a mating nuc, a spring increase nuc and an overwintering nuc, then scrub through a full year to watch bee population, brood coverage and queen status respond to the season.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Each nuc role has a different population target and queen behaviour: mating nucs cycle short-lived virgin queens through orientation, mating flights and laying; increase nucs track seasonal forage toward a full split; overwintering nucs contract into a tight cluster and their survival odds depend on frame count and feeding.

🎮 How to Use

Pick a nuc role, drag the day-of-year slider through the seasons, change the frame count from a 2-frame starter to a 6-frame double nuc, and toggle supplemental syrup feeding. Watch the live population estimate, brood coverage and outcome stat update.

💡 Did You Know?

Production beekeepers treat nucs as a standing asset class of their own — a bank of mating nucs turns out new queens every three weeks all season, while overwintered nucs replace winter losses each spring without buying in bees.
