Heavy Metal Soil Mobility & Plant Uptake Simulator

Not all of a poisonous substance in soil is equally dangerous — its bioavailability depends on chemistry, not just quantity. This simulator models the real sorption equilibrium that governs how a heavy metal contaminant (cadmium, lead, zinc or copper) splits between soil-bound and bioavailable pore-water phases as a function of pH and organic matter, then carries the bioavailable fraction through root uptake into plant tissue using a metal-specific bioconcentration factor, comparing the result against a food-safety hazard threshold. A live 3D soil column shows individual metal ions glowing when bioavailable and drifting toward root tips, rising into the canopy on capture — a direct picture of the soil-to-crop exposure pathway used in real environmental risk assessment.
