This simulation demonstrates the principles of geography hydrology, showing concretely how water moves through the environment: a procedurally generated 3D terrain is analysed with the same D8 steepest-descent flow routing real GIS hydrology software uses, tracing every cell's rainfall to the outlet it eventually reaches and colouring the result into distinct watersheds (or, in the alternate view, into a flow-accumulation heatmap showing where channels would naturally form). Animated raindrops either run off along that flow-direction tree toward their watershed's outlet or infiltrate into the soil, feeding a linear-reservoir groundwater model whose storage rises and falls with a visible water table and whose slow release — baseflow — is separated live from fast surface "quick flow" in the streamflow readout, exactly as hydrologists split a real river hydrograph into storm response and aquifer-fed base flow.
