💨 Boltzmann Distribution

The Boltzmann distribution gives the probability that a system in thermal equilibrium occupies a state of energy E, P(E) ∝ exp(−E / k_BT), where k_B is Boltzmann's constant and T is absolute temperature. It underlies the Maxwell-Boltzmann speed distribution of gas molecules and explains why higher-energy states grow exponentially rarer as temperature falls.
