Geodesic Dome Structure Simulator (2D)

This 2D companion builds a real geodesic dome from scratch: it starts with an icosahedron, subdivides each triangular face into a grid at the frequency you choose, and projects every new point back onto a sphere before cutting away everything below ground level to leave a dome. Raise the frequency slider to watch the triangle and strut counts climb, drag the canvas to spin the structure, and switch on "Colour by length" to see the small family of distinct strut lengths a real geodesic dome actually needs — the direct, countable consequence of forcing a flat triangular grid onto a curved sphere.
