Sandstone Formation: Burial Compaction & Cementation (2D)

This 2D companion runs the same diagenetic process as the 3D version through a plain stratigraphic cross-section and a live porosity–depth chart: sand layers are deposited one on top of another in real stratigraphic order, each newly deposited bed burying every layer beneath it under real overburden. Every buried layer's porosity is then driven by two independently-tunable, textbook diagenesis laws — Athy's-law exponential compaction with depth, and first-order cementation kinetics with time spent buried — so you can watch a loose, porous sand column turn into tight, cemented sandstone as it grows, and read exactly how deposition rate, compaction coefficient and cementation rate reshape the porosity-depth curve.
