Ecosystem Species Diversity Simulator

Biodiversity at the ecosystem level isn't just a headcount of species — it's a balance between how many species are present and how evenly individuals are spread among them. This simulator grows a live multi-species meadow on a 3D grid where disturbance clears ground, immigration seeds it with newcomers, and competitive dominance decides who spreads fastest into open plots — a stochastic community-assembly model in the spirit of neutral theory and the intermediate-disturbance hypothesis. Species richness, the Shannon and Simpson diversity indices, and evenness are recomputed from the live plot counts every generation, so you can watch classic ecological trade-offs — too much disturbance collapsing diversity, too much dominance driving competitive exclusion — play out numerically as well as visually.
