How it works

Creative confidence — the belief you can generate and act on original ideas — is modelled here as a single state variable C ∈ [0,1] that updates after every attempted "idea" (a design-thinking challenge with a chosen risk level r ∈ [0,1]):

P(success) = clamp(0.85 − 0.55·r + 0.35·C, 0.05, 0.97)

on success:  C ← C + 0.07·(1−C)·(0.4+r)
on failure:  C ← C − 0.05·C·(0.4+r)·(1−0.4C)

Riskier ideas are less likely to land, but a risky success (r > 0.6, a breakthrough) rewards confidence more than a safe one, and gains slow down as C approaches 1 — diminishing returns, just as repeated small wins matter less once confidence is already high. Failure stings less as C grows: the "resilience" term (1−0.4C) means an established creative already has evidence to fall back on.

Each attempt grows the idea tree by one segment from a random existing tip: direction spread widens with C (confident ideas explore further from the trunk), and length scales with C too.
A breakthrough (gold) also forks the tip into two new growth points — a risky win opens more creative directions.
A failure (red) caps that tip as a short wilted stub — it stops growing, but the tree keeps growing elsewhere.

This mirrors the core claim of creative-confidence research (Kelley & Kelley, IDEO/Stanford d.school): confidence is not fixed — it is built through small, survivable creative risks whose outcomes compound.
