Digital Watercolor: Pigment & Wet-Media Diffusion

This simulation models the physical process behind real watercolor painting rather than just drawing a static stroke: a thin water film governed by shallow-water flow carries suspended pigment across a virtual paper, spreading, blooming, and settling as it dries. Painting with a wetter brush or a higher water load produces the soft diffused edges and blooms characteristic of wet-on-wet technique, while a drier brush leaves crisp, controlled marks. Live readouts track total water and pigment mass on the paper as the fluid-and-diffusion simulation keeps running in the background, mirroring how real wet media continues to move and settle after the brush lifts.
