A branching river delta splits repeatedly toward the coastline, with particle dots animated along the channels showing current direction. Real deltas form this way too: as a river loses speed entering the sea it drops (deposits) its sediment load, building new land that forces the channel to split into distributary branches over and over. Each split you see here mimics that repeated bifurcation, spreading the same total water flow across ever-narrower fingers of the delta.
