Drag across the tray · slow = flows, fast = jams solid
This 2D particle simulator recreates oobleck โ a cornstarch-and-water suspension โ from above: hundreds of individually simulated grains jostle, collide and flow inside a tray. Drag slowly across the surface and the particles part smoothly like a liquid; punch or flick quickly and the local shear rate spikes, the grains lock together by friction, and the mixture briefly resists like a solid before relaxing back to a fluid. The live readout tracks the applied shear rate and the resulting effective viscosity, so you can see the shear-thickening relationship โ the same power-law behavior that lets liquid body armor stay soft to wear yet stiffen instantly on impact โ build up and fade in real time.
