Developed by American beekeeper Dr. C. C. Miller, this method raises queen cells without the fine-motor grafting of individual larvae. A frame of drawn worker comb is trimmed into a saw-tooth (zigzag) bottom edge and given to a strong colony to draw out fresh comb below each notch. The queen is confined to that frame just long enough to lay in the new wax, so the youngest brood ends up right on the cut edge — exactly where a queenless cell-builder colony will raise emergency queen cells hanging freely downward.
Because it needs no grafting tool, tweezers or magnifiers, the Miller method (and its relatives like the Hopkins and Alley methods) remains one of the most accessible ways for a beginner-friendly apiary to raise dozens of queen cells from a single strong colony.
