Each breed's five traits — temperament, winter hardiness, honey yield, swarm control and UK native fit — are scored 0–10 from typical UK apiary experience, not a single hive's results.
Switch between a radar outline (shape shows the overall balance of a breed) and a grouped bar chart (easier to compare one trait across all four breeds at once) — the two views plot the identical numbers differently.
The top-down hive panel is a flat, bird's-eye dot swarm: bee count, spread and jitter around the entrance scale with the selected breed's temperament, the disturbance slider and the season control, the same relationship the 3D version uses, drawn here with simple 2D dots and trails instead of an instanced 3D mesh.
- Breed — choose which strain's profile and hive behaviour to display.
- Radar / Bar chart — pick how the five-trait profile is drawn.
- Overlay all breeds — shows every breed's shape or bars at once for direct comparison.
- Colony disturbance — simulates opening the hive; the dot swarm gets faster and wider, especially for lower-temperament breeds.
- Season — Spring, Summer or Winter changes how many bees are out and how tightly they cluster.
