UV Disinfection Reactor

Ultraviolet (UV-C) disinfection is the third pillar of drinking-water treatment alongside filtration and chlorination — used because it inactivates chlorine-resistant pathogens like Cryptosporidium without adding chemicals to the water. This simulator models a real annular UV reactor: thousands of instanced particles representing microorganisms drift past a central UV-C lamp inside a flow channel, each accumulating a UV dose governed by the Beer-Lambert absorption law (intensity falling off with distance from the lamp and with water clarity) and converting that dose into a log-inactivation via the Chick-Watson dose-response relationship. Adjust lamp power, water transmittance (UVT) and flow rate, switch between four real target organisms with published dose-response constants, and watch the live dose and log-inactivation readouts track exactly what a water utility's UV validation report measures.
