This simulator places a 45° strain-gauge rosette — three resistive foil grids bonded at 0°, 45° and 90° — on a flat plate under a controllable biaxial strain field. Drag the strain and shear sliders to load the plate and watch its mesh deform (exaggerated for visibility) while each gauge grid stretches or compresses along its own measurement axis, exactly as it would in a real installation. Live readouts convert each gauge's strain into a resistance change via ΔR/R = GF·ε — switch the gauge factor between a typical metal-foil sensor (GF ≈ 2) and a doped-silicon piezoresistive sensor (GF up to ≈150) to see how much larger the electrical signal becomes for the same mechanical strain. The panel then inverts the three gauge readings back into the principal strains and their orientation, the same calculation used to size real structural test rigs from rosette data.
