Piezo Inkjet Droplet Ejection Dynamics

Drop-on-demand piezoelectric printheads fire millions of droplets a second by driving a bipolar pull-push voltage waveform across a piezo actuator bonded to an ink chamber. This simulator models the nozzle, the actuator and the resulting jet in 3D: adjust drive voltage, dwell time, ink viscosity and surface tension and watch the dimensionless Ohnesorge number decide the outcome in real time — no ejection when viscosity dominates, a clean single droplet in the printable window, or satellite droplets when the ligament outruns surface tension's ability to pinch it off cleanly.
