📏 Cantilever beam
δ = F·a²·(3L−a) / (6·E·I)
Deflection at the beam end: — mm
Max. stress near the wall: — MPa
Moment at the wall: — kN·m
State: within limits
tension (top) compression (bottom)
Why it matters: balconies, airplane wings, and crane jibs — all of them are cantilevers. The stress near the wall depends only on the force and the cross-section's shape (not on stiffness!), while deflection decreases as E increases. So a steel balcony will experience the same stress as a wooden one, but will deflect much less. The deflection shown on screen is magnified ×10 for clarity.
