Beacon beam sweep Nominal range ring Ship (lit when sighted)

Lighthouse Beam Simulator (2D)

This 2D top-down simulator recreates the same rotating-beacon mechanic as the 3D lighthouse tower, viewed from above: a lamp at the centre spins a light beam once per revolution, its brightness multiplied by a Fresnel lens exactly the way a real drum lens concentrates a bulb's scattered light into one narrow arc. Adjust rotation speed, lamp intensity and lens focusing power to change the beam, then dial in atmospheric transmissivity to see haze or fog eat into the nominal range — computed live from Allard's Law, the same equation used to print official lighthouse range tables. Toggle ship traffic on to watch vessels get "sighted" only once the sweeping beam crosses their bearing while they sit inside the current range ring.
