Distribution utilities run their feeders radially, with spare capacity waiting on a neighboring feeder behind a normally-open tie switch. This simulation models two real 3D feeders — Feeder A carrying five load nodes from Substation A, and a parallel Feeder B acting as backup — and lets you fault any segment of Feeder A to watch a genuine FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration) sequence unfold: the substation breaker trips instantly, sectionalizing switches isolate the faulted segment after a detection delay, the breaker recloses to restore everything upstream, and — if Feeder B has enough spare thermal capacity — the tie switch closes automatically to backfeed everyone downstream of the fault. Toggle automation off, push Feeder B's loading up until it can no longer absorb the backfeed, or move the fault along the line to see exactly how much of an outage a self-healing grid can undo versus what still needs a repair crew.
