This simulation demonstrates the operation of a hydroelectric power plant: how gravitational potential energy stored in a raised reservoir is converted into electrical energy as water falls through the penstock and spins a turbine coupled to a generator. Adjust the reservoir head, the intake gate opening and the turbine's efficiency, and bring more turbine units online, to see how each factor drives the plant's real-time power output, flow velocity and turbine speed — all computed from the same P = ηρgQH equation used to design real hydroelectric stations.
