This simulation explores a specific, lesser-known approach to harnessing tidal energy: a Dynamic Tidal Power (DTP) dam, a long straight wall run far out to sea with no enclosed basin. Because the tidal wave must travel around the dam's tip to reach its far face, the two faces feel the same open-ocean tide out of phase — and that travel-time phase lag alone builds a head difference along the wall that turbines set into the dam convert to electricity. Adjust the dam's length, the water depth it sits in, the open-ocean tidal amplitude and the number of turbines along its length, and watch the head profile and turbine spin respond to the real shallow-water wave physics (c = √(gD)) that governs how far that phase lag can travel.
