Magnetic Mirror Fusion Confinement

Nuclear fusion needs a way to hold a superheated plasma away from any wall long enough for reactions to occur. This simulator visualises one of the earliest confinement schemes: the magnetic mirror, a "magnetic bottle" whose field strengthens toward two coils at either end. Charged particles launched from the midplane spiral along the converging field lines; most reflect off the strong-field regions and bounce back and forth indefinitely, while particles whose velocity points too directly along the field escape through the loss cone. Adjust the mirror ratio to watch the loss cone open and close, inject particle bunches or a continuous stream, and read the live trapped/escaped tally and confinement fraction — the same trade-off that eventually pushed fusion research toward closed toroidal devices like the tokamak.
