How it works

Each block is a region: bar height is population, bar color is effective energy access (capacity shared across today's population — more people, less access each, a real congestion effect). Every simulated quarter a gravity-model migration equation moves people from lower- to higher-access blocks, weighted by distance:

w_ij = max(0, E_j − E_i) / dist_ij^γ
O_i  = pop_i · sensitivity · (1 − e^(−ΣW_i·k))
M_ij = O_i · w_ij / ΣW_i

Bar height — current population; watch low-access blocks shrink and high-access blocks grow as particles stream between them.
Bar color — energy access, red (low) through amber to teal (high); this is the pull that drives the gravity model.
Invest (click a block) — the real lever of energy-infrastructure spending: raises that region's capacity directly.
Climate shock — instantly damages the weakest region's capacity, the same energy-driven displacement trigger described in the source article.
