Wind Turbine Shadow Flicker Map

A wind turbine's rotating blades don't just generate power — when the sun is low, their moving shadow can strobe across nearby homes at the blade-pass frequency, a real siting concern called shadow flicker. This simulator drives an actual solar-position model (hour of day, day of year, fixed 51°N latitude) to move the sun through the sky, casts a real geometric shadow from a turbine's hub height and rotor radius, and checks live whether that shadow reaches and sweeps across a house placed at a chosen distance. A pannable, zoomable top-down map shows the shadow sweep in real space, a sun-elevation arc shows where the sun sits in today's daylight window, a strobe indicator pulses at the true blade-pass frequency exactly when flicker is active, and an annual heatmap sweeps the same physics across all 365 days to total the yearly flicker-hours real siting studies use to check against regulatory caps.
