Microgrid Black Start: Swing-Equation Restoration

A grid-forming battery energizes a dead microgrid island and cranks a diesel generator, which synchronizes after a real delay and begins responding to frequency error through governor droop. Restoring critical, essential and full load in stages steps the connected load up instantly, and a live 2nd-order swing equation decides whether the combined battery, diesel and solar generation can hold 50 Hz — restore too much too soon and under-frequency load shedding trips the stage back off, or worse, collapses the island entirely.
