Wind-shear arrows
Kite & tether
Flight-path trail
This 2D companion swaps the 3D scene for a readable side view of the same idea — wind energy harvested where it is strongest, hundreds of metres up. A power-law wind-shear profile sets how much faster the air moves at the chosen altitude than at 10 m, and Loyd's crosswind kite-power theory turns that wind speed, the kite's lift-to-drag ratio and its wing area into mechanical power, electrical power and tether tension you can watch respond in real time as a kite sweeps a figure-8 flight path through the wind field.
