Every district-heating network loses some of its heat to the ground along the way from plant to consumer. This 2D counterpart solves the real steady-state heat-conduction field on a grid around a buried, insulated pipe cross-section — insulation and soil as two conductivities in a single Laplace solve — rather than drawing a pre-computed colour gradient along a 3D pipe. A companion strip plots the resulting exponential decay of water temperature with distance, and a scan marker ties the two views together. Adjust insulation thickness, pipe length, flow rate and ground temperature and watch the field, the decay curve, the delivered temperature, total heat lost to the ground, and the network's delivery efficiency all respond together.
