Osteocalcin: Bone as an Endocrine Organ (2D)

Bone was long treated as a passive structural tissue, but osteoclast-mediated resorption releases the osteoblast-derived protein osteocalcin into circulation, where an acid-driven decarboxylation step activates it as a genuine hormone.
