Every chip in the global semiconductor industry — from a $600 billion foundry's most advanced 3nm process down to a simple diode — is built from millions of microscopic p-n junctions like the one visualized here. This simulator renders a silicon lattice split into a p-type region (boron dopant, mobile holes) and an n-type region (phosphorus dopant, mobile electrons). Watch carriers diffuse toward the junction and recombine into a depletion zone, then drag the applied-voltage slider to forward- or reverse-bias the junction and see the zone narrow or widen exactly as the Shockley diode equation predicts, switching current flow on or off.
