This simulation fires a charged particle down the axis of a Wien filter, a region where a uniform electric field between two parallel plates and a uniform magnetic field along the depth axis act on the particle at the same time. The Lorentz force F = qE + qv×B combines an electric push and a magnetic deflection that depends on the particle's own speed, so only one launch velocity — v = E/B — produces a perfectly straight path through the exit slit; every other speed curves away and is stopped. Adjust the field strengths and launch speed, flip the charge sign, or snap directly to the selected velocity to see how real velocity selectors and mass spectrometers isolate particles of one exact speed from a mixed beam.
