How it works

Each of the four competency dimensions grows through a power-law learning curve (deliberate-practice model): the more "effective hours" an activity contributes to a skill, the more it grows per cycle, but growth shrinks as the skill nears mastery (100):

W[a][i] is how effective activity a (workshop, coaching, reflection, mentoring) is at building skill i (content knowledge, pedagogy, classroom management, tech integration) — e.g. peer coaching builds classroom management fastest, workshops build content knowledge fastest. The decay term is an Ebbinghaus forgetting curve: a skill that received no reinforcing hours this cycle decays toward zero at rate d; heavy reinforcement (large effHours) suppresses that decay almost entirely.

Real-world relevance: this is the same shape of model education researchers use to argue that PD only "sticks" when it is spaced and reinforced — a single big workshop with no follow-up coaching produces a spike that decays away, while sustained smaller investments compound.
