About this simulation

Modern beekeepers increasingly plan feeding, treatments and finances with spreadsheets, apps and online calculators rather than guesswork. This lab turns that idea into a walkable 3D apiary: a grid of hives you can rotate around, each one wired to the same formulas a feeding calculator or a scenario simulator would run, with the combined results displayed on a holographic scorecard floating above the yard.

How it works

• Stores bar on each hive — a live glass gauge showing sugar syrup stores building up (or draining) from feed rate, season and colony consumption, exactly like a feeding calculator's output.
• Mite risk beacon — a small warning light above each hive brightens when varroa pressure outruns your treatment schedule, mirroring a treatment-timing calculator.
• Holographic bar chart — three floating bars for feed cost, honey revenue and net profit, recomputed every time a slider moves, just like a beekeeping business's break-even spreadsheet.
• Pollen particles and bee traffic intensify during nectar flow months and thin out in winter, visualising the seasonal task-calendar logic behind these tools.

Controls

• Number of hives — scales the apiary grid from a small backyard setup to a larger out-apiary.
• Feed rate — kilograms of sugar syrup fed per hive per week.
• Honey price — £ per kilogram used in the revenue and profit calculation.
• Season — changes nectar flow, consumption rate and ambient light.
• Varroa treatment scheduled — toggles whether a timely mite treatment is applied this season.
