Classroom Communication Network

This simulation models the flow of communication in a classroom as a decaying, diffusing signal across a seating network. A teacher figure periodically initiates a call-and-response turn with one of 30 seats; every seat's engagement decays toward a low baseline between turns, and a turn injects a boost that spreads to nearby seats the way enthusiasm and attention spread through a peer group. Teacher talk ratio, wait time, question type (open-ended vs closed recall) and call pattern (cold-call vs volunteers-only) all shape how the resulting communication network behaves — including well-documented effects like cold-calling reaching quiet students and volunteer-only calling widening participation gaps.
