How it works

Each portfolio entry k (submitted over time t_k ∈ [0,1]) gets four rubric-criterion scores, each following a noisy learning curve that approaches a ceiling:

skill(t) = ceiling − (ceiling − start) · e^(−r·t) + ε
r = growth rate,  ε ~ Normal(0, σ),  σ = (1 − consistency)·spread

The four criteria — Content Mastery, Reflection Depth, Technical Execution, Creativity — each have their own start level, ceiling and noise draw, so entries wobble realistically instead of climbing in a straight line. The rubric weight slider blends Reflection and Technical Execution into the composite (Content and Creativity stay fixed at 25% each):

composite = 0.25·Content + 0.25·Creativity + w·Reflection + (1−w−0.5)·Technical
(w set by the Reflection ↔ Technical slider, remaining weight split proportionally)

Growth score compares the mean composite of the last third of entries to the first third — the core claim a portfolio is supposed to support: did the student actually improve, not just produce more work. Consistency index is 1 minus the coefficient of variation of residuals after removing the fitted growth trend — high consistency means the ups and downs are small relative to the trend, low consistency means one strong or weak entry could swing the grade. Real-world relevance: this mirrors why portfolio-based grading is powerful but noisy — a single "off day" artifact can distort a course grade unless the assessor looks at the trend line, not just the latest piece.
