Mutagen Pollution: River Plume & Mutation-Frequency Simulator

This simulator couples two real mechanisms that environmental genetic toxicology treats separately: how a mutagenic pollutant physically spreads through a waterway, and how that exposure translates into DNA damage in the organisms living downstream. A finite-difference solver advects, diffuses and degrades a discharge plume across a live grid rendered as a 3D river surface, while sixteen instanced sentinel organisms anchored at different points downstream integrate their local concentration history into a cumulative dose and convert it to a mutation frequency using the linear no-threshold model that underlies Ames-test and other short-term mutagenicity readouts. Adjust the discharge rate, flow velocity, turbulent mixing and degradation rate to see how each one reshapes both the visible plume and the downstream mutation-frequency curve.
