Planetary Boundaries: Anthropocene Ecology

The Anthropocene is the proposed epoch in which human activity — not orbital cycles or volcanism — is the dominant force reshaping Earth's systems. The planetary boundaries framework identifies nine processes that keep the planet in the stable, Holocene-like state civilization evolved in, and estimates a safe operating limit for each. This simulation drives all nine with four adjustable human-pressure controls — fossil fuel burn, fertilizer input, deforestation and population/consumption growth — coupled the way the real Earth system is coupled, so land conversion and climate forcing both erode biosphere integrity, and CO2 output feeds both climate change and ocean acidification at once. Push the sliders and watch how many boundaries get crossed, and how fast.
