How it works

Each resident is a node on a grid with three states: unaware (grey), aware (blue) and practicing (green — actively acting on what they learned). Awareness spreads by a local Bass-diffusion rule combining a campaign's external reach with word-of-mouth from already-informed neighbors:

  p = external outreach (media, school programs, campaign pulses)
  q = peer-influence coefficient
  f_neighbors = fraction of a node's 4 grid-neighbors already aware/practicing

P(aware → practicing in one week) = r
  r = practice-adoption rate (how readily awareness becomes behavior)

The share of the community actually practicing conservation behavior drives a habitat-health index H that relaxes toward it with a lag, modeling real ecosystem recovery times:

dH/dt = k · (F_practicing − H)

External outreach p — baseline chance any unaware resident learns from the campaign directly, independent of neighbors.
Peer influence q — how strongly a resident's own neighbors nudge them toward awareness; higher q makes adoption spread node-to-node like a contagion.
Practice adoption rate r — how fast an aware resident turns knowledge into sustained action.
Launch Campaign Pulse — instantly informs a burst of residents (a school visit, a media push), seeding new spread fronts.
