Ecological Footprint of Nations

This simulator visualizes the Global Footprint Network's core accounting: how much biologically productive land and sea (in global hectares per person) a country's consumption requires, versus how much biocapacity Earth actually provides. A ring of orbiting Earths shows how many planets it would take if everyone on Earth lived like the selected country's average resident, while an annual calendar arc marks that country's Overshoot Day — the date by which a world of such consumers would exhaust a full year's renewable budget. Switch between countries to see how a wealthy, carbon-intensive economy can require several planets' worth of resources while others live within a single Earth's means.
