Trees and shrubs planted around an apiary do three jobs at once: they lock away atmospheric carbon as woody biomass, they add nectar and pollen forage inside the bees' normal flight range, and a planted ring acts as a windbreak that softens gusts reaching the hives — all things a real planting plan has to balance against how much space and how many years you have.
A mature native hedgerow or shelterbelt can reduce wind speed for a distance of up to ten times its own height downwind — which is exactly why windbreak rows are usually planted upwind of an apiary rather than scattered at random.
Plant a ring of trees or shrubs around a 3D apiary and watch carbon capture, pollinator forage overlap and windbreak shelter respond as you change species, distance, density and years of growth.
Pioneer, canopy and flowering-shrub species trade off growth speed, total carbon stored and forage value; planting distance decides how much of that forage actually falls inside a normal bee flight range.
