This simulation demonstrates how two populations interact when they compete for the same limited resource rather than eat one another — the interspecific-competition variant of the Lotka-Volterra equations. Each species grows logistically toward its own carrying capacity, but the presence of the rival species eats into that capacity by an amount set by a competition coefficient. Adjusting the carrying capacities and the two competition coefficients moves the system between four textbook regimes — stable coexistence, competitive exclusion of one species by the other, or an unstable equilibrium where the outcome depends only on which population had a head start — and the 3D scene shows the two populations, and the resource field they share, evolving under real Runge-Kutta integration of the governing equations while a live history plot tracks both trajectories.
