This simulation models the assisted recovery of a degraded ecosystem plot. A 12×12 grid of habitat patches starts badly damaged — the kind of ground left behind by logging, mining or intensive farming. Dial in a habitat-reconstruction rate and the patches recover through a logistic model that mirrors real restoration-ecology practice, while a disturbance slider models ongoing pressure from invasive species or edge effects that pulls quality back down. As average quality crosses successive thresholds, three trophic guilds — pioneer plants, herbivores and apex predators — become eligible for reintroduction in the order a real food web actually rebuilds, each capped by a carrying capacity tied to how much of the plot now supports it. Live readouts track simulated years elapsed, average habitat quality, guild populations and a Shannon-style biodiversity index that only climbs once recovery is broad, not just deep in one guild.
