The 3D version of this simulator tracks one well-mixed population number that rises and falls with a single fitness value. This 2D companion goes spatial: it lays temperature out along one axis and rainfall along the other, computes Shelford's bell-shaped tolerance response to each independently, and combines them with a fixed soil-nutrient level through Liebig's law of the minimum to build a real fitness landscape. A population density field then evolves under a genuine Fisher-KPP reaction-diffusion equation — local logistic growth toward a fitness-scaled capacity, plus dispersal that lets colonizers spread into neighboring cells — so you watch a habitable "island" emerge, sharpen or blur with dispersal, and visibly migrate as a climate-shift slider warms the whole gradient, exactly the range-shift dynamic the 3D twin's theory panel describes but cannot show.
