This 2D companion renders the anglerfish esca as an actual computed light field rather than a lit 3D object: a top-down grid samples the Beer-Lambert intensity at every cell around the lure, so turbidity and quorum-sensing changes visibly reshape the glowing region itself in real time. A Hill-function quorum switch (density slider) sets the esca's true intensity I₀, exactly as in the biology; a turbidity slider sets the water's attenuation coefficient k; together they define the detection radius R, drawn as an exact ring where the field's own intensity equals a prey eye's contrast threshold. A small inset chart plots the Hill curve itself with a live marker so the quorum switch's sharp on/off behaviour is visible directly, not just implied by a brightness change. Toggle steady glow versus the fish's muscular flashing shutter and watch a field of wandering prey home in only once they sit inside the lit radius during an "on" pulse.
