Distributed computing is a field of computer science built on machines that must agree on things โ who is in charge, and what order events happened in โ without a single point of truth. This simulator runs a simplified but real implementation of Raft, the consensus protocol used inside etcd, Consul and CockroachDB. Nodes hold genuine elections with real, incrementing term numbers and real majority vote counting over simulated network latency; the elected leader replicates a real append-only log to the cluster and only marks an entry committed once an actual majority of nodes have durably stored it. Click any node to partition it from the rest of the network and watch the protocol's real trade-off play out: isolate a minority and the cluster keeps making progress; isolate or split off a majority and progress stops dead until the partition heals โ consistency preserved, availability sacrificed, exactly as Raft is designed to behave.
