ASCON Permutation Lab 2D: Lightweight Cryptography for IoT

Battery-powered IoT sensors cannot afford the RAM, code size, or energy budget of full AES-128 — which is why NIST standardized ASCON in 2023 as the lightweight authenticated-encryption cipher for constrained devices. This 2D simulator executes ASCON's real 320-bit sponge permutation — the actual bit-sliced 5-bit S-box and rotate-XOR linear diffusion layer, computed with BigInt 64-bit words — and renders every one of the 320 state bits as a live-updating grid, alongside a round-constant timeline and a comparative energy model against AES-128 and a simulated coin-cell battery. Adjustable message size and MCU clock make concrete why lightweight cryptography exists: the same security guarantees, at a fraction of the energy cost, for the billions of constrained IoT endpoints that a full block cipher would drain in days.
