🐝 Precision Thermal and Ventilation Management for Hives

A 3D cutaway hive reveals the convection loop bees rely on: warm air rising from a clustered brood nest, spilling sideways under the lid, cooling along the insulated walls and sinking back down, with a top vent and fanning guard bees controlling how fast moisture actually leaves.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

How outside temperature, insulation thickness and vent opening interact to set brood-nest core temperature, wall surface temperature and interior relative humidity — including the condensation risk when ventilation is too tight in cold weather.

🎮 How to Use

Move the outside-temperature and vent sliders, switch insulation thickness and season, and toggle fanning bees at the entrance. Watch the airflow particles speed up or stagnate, the cluster tighten or beard outside, and the live stat readouts respond.

💡 Did You Know?

A poorly ventilated, under-insulated lid in winter can let warm moist air condense and drip straight back onto the cluster — chilling bees far more effectively than dry outside cold ever would.
