A living wall does two distinct jobs a coat of paint cannot: its leaf canopy intercepts sunlight before it ever reaches the masonry (shading, governed by the Beer–Lambert law), and it sheds part of the energy it does absorb as latent heat through evapotranspiration rather than letting it raise a surface temperature. This simulator runs a real steady-state surface energy balance — solar absorption, convective loss to wind, and radiative exchange with the sky — for a bare wall and a green facade side by side, solved live via Newton–Raphson as you change solar load, canopy density (leaf area index), soil moisture and wind speed, so you can see exactly how many degrees of cooling each factor buys.
