Permeable Pavement Infiltration Lab

Climate-resilient road infrastructure often means rethinking the pavement itself. This simulator lays a conventional asphalt lane side by side with a permeable-pavement lane and rains on both at once, so you can watch the difference in real time: raindrops on the asphalt side turn straight into surface runoff, while raindrops on the permeable side pass through the surface into an aggregate-base reservoir that fills and slowly drains to the subgrade. Rainfall intensity, the pavement's infiltration capacity, and a clogging factor that models years of sediment loading all feed a simple storage mass-balance, and the runoff coefficient, peak-flow reduction, reservoir fill level and cumulative infiltrated volume update live as the storm plays out.
